RECIPE: Pretzel Apple Bites

April 26 is National Pretzel Day and what better way to eat a pretzel than with apples and caramel? We’ve got an amazing recipe to share with you today that incorporates Dippin’ Stix with soft pretzels. Get ready for your mouth to start watering, you’re about to create a fantastic treat!

What you’ll need:
PRETZEL
3 trays of Dippin’ Stix Sliced Apples and Caramel
½  cup milk
½  Tbsp. ( ½  packet) active dry yeast
1.5 Tbsp. brown sugar
1 Tbsp. butter, melted
2.5 cups flour (plus a little extra for prepping)
½  tsp. fine salt
¼  tsp. cinnamon

 COATING
1.5 Tbsp. baking soda
½  cup warm water
4 Tbsp. butter, melted in a shallow dish
¼  cup white sugar
¼  cup brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon

1. Warm up the milk in the microwave to about 110°, if it’s too hot the temperature will kill the yeast. Stir in the yeast until dissolved and let it stand for about 3 minutes. Add the melted butter and brown sugar. Add the flour a little at a time, then add the salt. Knead for about 10 minutes. Finely dice the apples from all 3 trays.

2. Add the apples and cinnamon to the dough. Add another Tbsp of flour to help the apples mix in better. Mix until well combined and place in a greased bowl. Cover the bowl with greased cling wrap and let the dough rise for 1 hour in a warm, moist place. Dough will approximately double in size.

3. Preheat the oven to 450°. Punch down the dough and divide into two lumps. Roll each lump into a long rope, about 1″ thick and cut into bite sized pieces.

4. Combine the baking soda and warm water in a dish. Dip the bite-sized pieces into the baking soda mixture until they’ve been coated on all sides.

5. Place the pieces on a well-greased baking sheet and bake for 7-11 minutes or until browned.

6. Prepare the melted butter in one dish and combine the sugars and cinnamon into a second dish. Dip the hot pretzel bites into the butter, then immediately into the sugar mixture until coated on all sides.

7. Serve warm with the caramel from the Dippin’ Stix trays.
